Project Name
Reflectance Transformation Imaging
Project Description
Samuel H. Kress Foundation funded study of RTI imaging. CHI (Cultural Heritage Imaging) and FAMSF staff will photograph 6 objects (paintings, frames, silver, enamel, paper) to determine if RTI technology is helpful to conservators in their efforts to document and conserve collection objects.
After RTI images are captured, FAMSF conservators will be interviewed to get their opinion on the results. A focus group opened to conservators outside FAMSF staff will also be conducted.
It will be possible to put the resulting RTI images on the FAMSF web site to be used as public outreach/education.

Notes
RTI is a technology whereby an object can be photographed multiple times with raking light from different angles. The resulting image files are combined, and when viewed in a specific (open source) viewer, details not otherwise seen are revealed.
